Beauty Review: Clarins Eclat Minute Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base

Promise:
Facilitates make-up application and promotes lasting wear

Packaging:
Comes in a convenient pen with a brush

Shade:
Clarins Eclat Minute is available in only one shade 00 which is very light pink with beige undertones

Application:
You can apply Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base on the eye lid using the brush it comes with. Very convenient to get close to eye lashes or reach the eye corner. You can also just use your finger.

Stay-on Power:
Stays on long and is crease resistant!

Cover Power:
Excellent! It just lights up the eye area.

Texture:
Very similar to liquid foundation but a bit thicker. Not oily and not slippery

Experience:
This is my first experience with an eye perfecting product or an eye shadow base. I used liquid foundation to even the tone on my eye lids before… At times I wouldn’t use anything at all, but now I’m converted. How on Earth could I have lived without an eye shadow base? Anyone explain to me!

Initially I planned to buy Guerlain Eye Shadow Base from spring makeup collection 2009 but they didn’t have it available here. So without much prior research I just went for Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base. It did not disappoint me but I may sound a bit too critical since it’s my first experience and I don’t have much to compare to.

Starting off with big pluses, Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base has nice not oily texture and it does not irritate my quite sensitive eyes!

I apply Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base on the eye lid using the brush it comes with. It’s very convenient to get close to eye lashes or into the eye corner. Then tapping with my finger I blend it all over the eye lid. It is a bit thicker than liquid foundation, so I’m always careful not to tag at the tender eye skin. I actually like the way it applies evenly all over the lid and it doesn’t take too much effort to spread it and blend it into the skin.

I think it's obvious which eye has Clarins base on it

I love how well Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base covers darkness of the skin on my eyelids and on the side of the nose at the inner eye corner. It makes not only my eye area light up but my whole face looks brighter and more awake. Very often I don’t even apply eye shadow over it. I just put on mascara, lip gloss and I’m ready to face the world! It creates a great canvass for eye shadow application. To see what difference this base can make I would experiment with applying it on one eye only and then applying eye shadow on both eye lids. I have to say that the colors and the whole look is so much better on the eye with the base!

You can also use Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base on under eye circles. But it’s a bit too thick for this so I prefer YSL Touche Eclat.

Now I’m going to be a bit picky… I’m not completely satisfied with the way it looks on the skin. It has this powdery finish to it. I wish it looked more smooth on the skin.

I have also tested Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base for the promised “promotion of lasting makeup wear” and am not sure how effective it is. As mentioned above, before applying eye shadow I would apply Clarins base only on one lid and, trying not to think of how ridiculous I looked, I spent the whole day like this. Late in the evening I would closely inspect the result in the mirror. I didn’t see any difference at all between the eye with the base and the eye without when I used Shiseido Hydro-Powder (excellent eye shadow!!!). I noticed only very slight difference in creasing in favor of Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base with a powder shadow by Estee Lauder.

Bottom Line:
I like Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base, I would recommend it but to form final opinion I need to try some other eye shadow base to be able to compare.
