The Blonde is Back

Big news! My natural-looking-highlighted-hair days are over… I went blonde again! Just couldn’t stand looking at myself in the mirror any more… One day I just felt bursting with deisre to have lighter… brighter… blonder hair… So what do I do? I just call up local (quite prestigious and expensive) salon and make an appointment to dye my hair. Why didn’t I go to my usual hairdresser? The answer is because I was wondering “what’s out there” and if “I am missing out on something” … So I come to that well-known salon and say that I want to go a couple shades lighter, I don’t need to have it extremely white but PLEASE, no yellow or orangey color. No, of course not! In an hour I am staring at my yellowish head of hair. So I say: “It’s yellow and I specifically asked you to please do something so that it’s not yellow” (Well, I say it more diplomatically of course.) 30 minutes later I am staring at my bluish hair… (Damn!) It will come out in 2 washes I am told, and after paying (I had to pay for that!!) off I go hoping the blue color is not too obvious.

In a couple weeks the orangey hair is back and I am dialing my hairdresser to get an appointment. I lie to her saying that I decided to go blonde but could not reach her… sigh… Have you ever lied to your hairdresser? Not so easy if you have her mobile and her home numbers…

Even though I am stuck now dying my roots, dealing with the orangey pigment and my husband’s constant inquiries as to why I go to hairdresser’s every couple weeks, I still don’t regret becoming blonde again. Good to be back! Blonde rules! *wink*

Is that a pic of your most recent blonde? I think it looks really nice. But, about those trendy, expensive salons- I've never found them to be any better, have better talent, etc...in fact, here to get someone at a decent level at a trendy salon, I have to request a "director" level colorist, or even the manager or owner. Which means paying even more...otherwise you end up with someone fresh out of school who should still be assisting. Fancy salons that have "levels" put people out before they're ready and give them a lower level, because they know people will book based on the salon's name & they can make more money. Seems like less trendy salons (granted I'm not talking about Super Cuts here- some of those ppl don't even seem like they went to school!) aren't willing to risk reputation on an inexperienced colorist/stylist.

I get what you mean about needing to see what else is out there- isn't it nice to know your regular stylist is better than the ones at that super-pricey place?

Hi Jessica! That is my most recent blonde photo! Thanks! I love the hair color now- no yellow... great job! Well, i think when i tried tpo go to this fancy place... i was unlucky but i don't think i got a trainee or somebody of a kind... i think she just didn't care much and didn't have much experience.. also, in her defense, she was working with my hair for the first time :-) so she had no idea how much resistent pigment I have... But anyway the moral is that if you are happy with your hairdresser why look for something better!!

I've had platinum blonde hair for about 3 years now and just recently switched to brown. I'm missing the blonde but it's a nice change for fall :). Anyway, I wanted to call out a product that worked wonders on my blonde hair...Clairol Shimmer Lights Shampoo. Maybe you've heard of it. It completely removes the brassiness from blonde hair; it's the best purple shampoo for blondes I have ever came across. It even comes in a moisturizing formula so it doesn't dry out bleached hair any further. You should try it!

Hi Melodi!
Thanks for your comment and the recommendation. I am actually constantly checking out such shampoos and conditioners... I am a bit afraid though to start using these purple shampoos again as before when I used a mask or balm I had parts of my hair actually turning purple! But it's good to get recommendations like yours... i definately need to test it - I will try to find this shampoo here and give it a try :-)
