Beauty Review: Shiseido Hydro-Powder Eye Shadow

Recently I’ve been drawn like a magnet to eye shadows! Hardly a week passed after buying Guerlain’s spring palette, I found myself at Shiseido’s counter checking out their Hydro-Powder Eye-Shadow. As I’ve mentioned, I had a bad (sticky and creasy) experience with a creamy eyeshadow previously so I was a bit worried about giving a cream shadow another chance … Here is my review…

Color:
Spring Plum

It’s warm light plum with tiniest green shimmery particles

Stay-on Power:
Amazingly long! And it’s crease-resistant - only after 8-9 hours I started seeing some creasing but the color still remained fresh.

Texture:
Thick mousse

Experience:
I love love love Hydro-Powder eye shadow! You can apply it with your finger but a brush will give you much more control and allow perfect accuracy. I’m using my Sigma concealer brush. Hydro-Powder slides on soooo smoothly, blends very easily and looks one with the skin. I was amazed how easily you can “move around” this shadow on the eyelid, add more color where you need it and blend out any harsh edges. I would never expect this from a cream shadow!
You can control the intensity of color and load on more of Hydro-Powder for a luminous more dramatic look. When you turn your head and the light hits the eye shadow, you get this beautiful sheen of light green. Oh, and you can also wear hydro-powder as an eyeliner!

Green-eyed gals, take a note of Spring Plum shade! It will bring out the beautiful green in your eyes.

Bottom Line:
I am looking forward to buying more colors of Shiseido’s Hydro-Powder Eye Shadow!

Dolce and Gabbana launched a makeup line at the end of January… So it doesn’t really count as spring news, but it was news for me and the collection is only now making it to the stores in Europe, so I decided to include it as well!

Beauty News: New Ingestible Ingredient Brings Relief to Sensitive Skin

With the launch of a new ingestible ingredient developed by P.L.Thomas, people suffering from skin irritation, itchy, flaky skin may expect release of a new supplement to resolve these skin problems from within.

The ingredient is a protein filtrate from sweet whey and will be available in an oral form to relieve mild-to-moderate skin irritations. This ingredient was tested in clinical trials on psoriasis patients and showed certain improvement in 31 to 38 percent of patients (which doesn’t strike me as a significant improvement rate).

P.L.Thomas’ head of cosmeceuticals Alda Brandao is sure demand for edible beauty is set to grow and her own motto is “cosmetics so natural you can eat them”.

In my opinion there is a definite need for a supplement that would relieve problems associated with sensitive skin. So I welcome this new development and hope for improvements in its effectiveness rate!

Beauty Tip: Use Sun Protection! And if you already do, it’s time to upgrade!

Probably, you are already tired of hearing about SPF and sunscreen. Nowadays, you have to be blind and deaf not to know how damaging sun rays are for your skin. However, there are still people who sunbathe, go to solariums and don’t have SPF in their daily moisturizer. So, let us say it once again. Sun is the main cause of premature skin aging. Protect your skin from its destructive rays and you will not see wrinkles and sun spots for a long time to come.

    * Wear SPF all year round. You may go down to SPF 15-20 for late autumn winter but remember to upgrade to SPF 30 with the first bright spring rays and for the summer.

    * Make sure you block both UVA (aging rays with wavelength 320-400 nanometers) and UVB (burning rays with wavelength of 280-320 nanometers). Take note of these two ingredients that cover the widest wave spectrum: Zinc Oxide and Mexoryl.

    * Remember, SPF protection in your makeup is not enough. Make sure your moisturizer has SPF or wear sunblock even though your powder may have SPF 20.

    * It’s impossible to block sunrays with a sunscreen 100%, that’s why add additional protection by wearing wide brim hat, sunglasses and sticking to the shade.

New Skin Care Products: Sisley, Guerlain, Clinique, Estee Lauder...

What’s new in skin care this spring?

Sisley launched a new product Instant Perfect which promises to help you “minimize shine and fine lines”. Instant Perfect seems to be a cosmetic solution and skin care treatment in one. It is a gel that contains silicone and light diffusing particles to smooth, correct and mattify your complexion. Plus, it promises to stimulate collagen production with peptidic soya extracts and minimizes pores with Frangipani blossom extract.

Estee Lauder expands their Re-Nutriv line with Re Nutriv Intensive Lifting Lotion. This light weight moisturizer provides intensive lifting effect with a “blend of botanicals, protective anti-oxidants and Sea Whip Extract”

La Prairie launched a new anti-aging serum Skin Caviar Crystalline Concentrate. This luxurious serum contains plant extracts, peptides, amino acids and even diamond, mica and quartz crystals to give your skin youthful glow, to make it firmer and increase skin’s elasticity, and to soften appearance of wrinkles.

Guerlain added another product to their Orchidee Imperiale line. Orchide Imperiale White Serum combines anti-ageing properties with skin lightening effect and promises to give you lighter and more even skin tone.

Clinique launched an anti-aging moisturizer based on Sirtuin (“longevity genes”) technology. Youth Surge SPF 15 Age Decelerating Moisturizer promises to extend your youth, plump, liven up your skin and make wrinkles “evaporate”. It sounds like something really new for anti-ageing market and interesting to try out. A couple words on technology. For example, Sirtuins help to extend the function and life of skin cells. Another feature of this moisturizer is anti-glycation technology which helps to combat negative effects of sugars on collagen and elastin . As I can see Youth Surge gets good reviews so far!

And my personal favorite newcomer this spring is La Mer SPF 30 UV Protecting Fluid. La Mer Protecting Fluid provides broad UVA/UVB protection. It is truly precious as it contains tourmaline and malachite gemstones which according to the company provide anti-oxidant effect. It also contains seaweeds “to keep skin comfortable, hydrated and soothed”.
I always use SPF 30 during the mid-spring/summer period and I started considering various products already end of winter. I was lucky to use once a La Mer moisturizer (only once as the price hurts!) before. So this makes La Mer Protecting Fluid my dream buy for the summer!

Beauty Buy: Shiseido Hydro-Powder Eye Shadow and Clarins Eye Perfecting Base

This weekend, inspired by the sunny spring weather, I went shopping... again. What can I say - a girl needs her shopping fix! At least I'm satisfying my shopping itch with makeup and not with Manolo Blahnik shoes like Carrie Bradshaw.

Except from restocking on my currently favorite cleansing lotion from Estee Lauder and Talika eye masks, I got two new products:

    * Shiseido Hydro-Powder Eye Shadow in Spring Plum

I was cautious checking Shiseido's Hydro-Powder shadow out. I've tried some cheap cream shadows and was really disappointed so since then I have been avoiding all the creamy shadows out there.

Let me cut a long story short and just say that I'm wowed by Shiseido's cream eye shadow! :-) Will be reviewing it in detail this or the next week.
And look what they gave me to test! The new Perfect Rouge lipstick!!

    * Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base

Initially I had my eye on Guerlain's eye shadow base from their spring collection. But it is not available here and I did not want to buy it online without testing it. So I decided to try Clarins. My review is coming soon!
